Dental Implants Excellent for Replacing Lost Teeth

Posted by Ken Erickson Filed Under Dental, Dental Care with No Comments

About three years ago I needed to have a tooth extracted, and my dentist explained my options for replacing the tooth. These included a bridge or having a dental implant. I am well versed on the subject of dental bridges, since I’ve had one in my mouth for over forty years. It has always worked well, and the only problem is trying to clean underneath it, but that is really not a big issue. Dental implants were not used when my bridge was inserted so many years ago. The advantage of the implant is that it is made of titanium, and this material actually makes a chemical bond into the bone in one’s jaw. Thus, when a cap is placed onto the implant post, the resulting tooth is just as strong as a natural tooth. My has been fine since it was installed, and I would recommend this procedure to anyone who needs to replace a tooth. The cost was about the same as a bridge. Gum Disease Can Be Easily Avoided

The leading reason that people end up losing teeth is because of gum disease. This condition can generally be avoided with good oral hygiene practices. It is necessary to brush one’s teeth twice a day to remove plaque and food particles. Flossing is also encouraged, and this cleans teeth and exercises the gums. The use of a waterpik machine periodically will also go a long way to help avoid gum disease and gingivitis. Of the two conditions, gum disease is the worst, and once it sets in an operation is necessary to cure it. Gum disease causes the body to create toxins that destroy gum tissue and can lead to other illnesses. Boulder dentists is a good resource for help with all kinds or oral health issues.

My Dental Implant Experience

I had my dental implant about two years ago. It turned out that I had to have a tooth extracted, and my choices were to have a bridge constructed or to have an implant. The cost for both was about the same, and this came to several thousand dollars. This seems expensive, but having a missing tooth in my mouth was not going to be an option. The dentist pulled my tooth and then determined that I needed some additional reinforcing bone in my jaw. He placed that in after the tooth was pulled, and then I waited several months to have the implant placed. It took a few more months for this to bind well to my jaw. Finally I had a cap made and my implant is just as strong as a normal tooth. Boulder dentists has more articles on the subject of implants and other good practices for excellent oral hygiene.

Some Thoughts About How to Properly Store Your Jewelry

Posted by Ken Erickson Filed Under Jewelry with No Comments

If you own expensive jewelry it is certainly worthwhile to know something about proper storage of jewelry pieces.

There is a cardinal rule of thumb that should be followed at all times. That is, each item should have its own storage compartment, preferably in a cloth lined jewelry box. If you have several items stored together they are likely to scratch one another, and you might break something when pulling the pieces apart. For expensive items with precious metals or precious or semi-precious gemstones, it would be a good idea to take these to a jeweler to have them cleaned and inspected. Have the jeweler fix any broken parts, as these could fall apart later and cause you to lose something. If your jewelry is worth a good deal of money, it would be wise to store the items in a safe, either in your home or at your bank.

You can inspect the less expensive items yourself using a magnifying glass. These should also be stored separately. Custom hand made jewelry can be of help with this subject and anything else having to do with jewelry.

Painted Silk Scarves Make Elegant Gifts

An excellent idea if you are looking for a gift for a lady is painted silk scarves.

Silk is an all-natural substance that is made when silkworms spin their cocoons. They spin one long and continuous thread which is unraveled and then woven into fabric. Silk is very light in weight and holds colors remarkably well. It feels cool to the touch in summer, but it is surprisingly warm in winter.

Special techniques are needed to paint on silk. Since the colors tend to bleed and run together, resists of different kinds are employed to stop the paint from running. There is also a technique called salt resist silk painting in which pieces of rock salt are placed on the newly painted silk. The salt will absorb some of the color and create very pretty patterns and color differences. Many people think painted silk scarves are very expensive, but some can be found at great prices.

Use a Waterpik for Good Oral Hygiene

Years ago I went to a dental office and ended up having to have a root canal to save a tooth. This was a shame because the only reason the tooth had become so decayed was because of neglect. The dentist scolded me for having let my teeth deteriorate in such a way. He suggested that I needed to change my dental habits, and he suggested that I purchase a Waterpik machine.

This type of machine produces pulsating jets of water that are directed between the teeth and along the gum line. The stream of water will clean your teeth and will also exercise your gums. When gums are healthy they are resilient and will resist bleeding when being touched. If your gums bleed fairly easily when your dental hygienist is cleaning your teeth with a dental tool, you know that your gums are not in good condition.

Your dentist will be able to quickly determine if you take care of your teeth on a daily basis or if you are prone to letting this necessary task slip.
